SCSO is investigating the death of a male subject found inside a vehicle in Phillippi Creek near Graber Avenue and Kaufman Avenue in Sarasota. The male, identified as Jose Andino (DOB 3/3/1957), was the subject of a missing persons investigation reported on Tuesday, August 6, after he failed to show up for work the previous day.

Andino’s body was located by divers on Monday, August 12, inside his 2005 Toyota 4-Runner found submerged in the creek. A passerby had located the vehicle as the water levels in that area had receded over the past several days. Prior to the discovery, the sheriff’s office utilized multiple investigative means and deployed K-9, aviation, and marine units to search the areas near Bahia Vista and Phillippi Creek where Andino’s cellphone last pinged his location.

Sheriff’s office members continue the investigation in the area of Phillippi Creek and Graber Avenue. If anyone has any additional information in reference to this case, please contact the Criminal Investigations Section at 941.861.4900.
