The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has completed its thorough investigation into the officer-involved shooting that took place on February 26, 2024. The incident occurred near the intersection of U.S. 41 and University Parkway when Sarasota Police Department officers attempted to take a subject into custody during a traffic stop.
After several months of diligent review, the FDLE has determined that the officers’ actions were justified and that they may return to duty. All five officers who were placed on administrative leave following the incident have been cleared.
