A Punta Gorda man was arrested for felony domestic battery and multiple drug charges after a trafficking amount of cocaine and over $10,000 in cash was found in his vehicle.

On Tuesday June 4, 2024, deputies were contacted by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) notifying them that a meeting was arranged with Thomas Christopher Barnicle (04/05/1995). With probable cause to arrest and charge Barnicle for felony domestic battery from an incident that occurred in Punta Gorda on June 2, deputies attended this meeting in the area of Murdock Circle in Port Charlotte.

Deputies approached Barnicle who was sitting in his parked vehicle and confirmed his identity. Once he was placed in handcuffs a search of his person and vehicle was conducted. In his front passenger seat, deputies located clear plastic bags filled with 42.3 grams of a white powdery substance, which tested positive for cocaine. Deputies also located a black combination safe box containing over $10,000 in cash and two pills. Additionally, rifle and handgun ammunition was located in the glovebox.

This is exactly the type of person I don’t want living in my county. If you choose to assault someone, especially someone who is pregnant, you don’t belong here. Beyond that cowardly attack, to be driving around with that amount of poison in Charlotte County, it is clear that you don’t care about anyone but yourself. The consequences are real, and they are overdue – but his time is up.

SHERIFF BILL PRUMMELL

Thomas Barnicle was transported to the Charlotte County Jail and charged with the following.

  • Cocaine – Trafficking more than 28 grams less than 150kg
  • Possession of harmful new legend drug without prescription
  • Drug paraphernalia- posession or use of
  • Aggravated Battery – Offender Knew Victim Pregnant

Barnicle has since bonded out at the time of this post.
