Venice Police provided life saving procedures to a distressed swimmer, who unfortunately  passed away at the hospital

Venice Police and Venice Fire Rescue responded to a distressed swimmer report at the Venice Beach area, 101 The Esplanade S. at 6:50 p.m. Sunday.

 

A VPD officer arrived on scene and was directed to a person in the water that could be seen approximately 125 yards straight out from the south lifeguard stand. The VPD officer entered the Gulf with a rescue buoy and reached the 66-year-old male, found face down and unresponsive.

 

The Venice Fire Rescue boat arrived, and the subject was loaded onto the boat where CPR was initiated. Lifesaving measures continued throughout the water and land transport to SMH Venice.

 

The subject was eventually pronounced deceased at the hospital.

 

At this time, a VPD detective will investigate this death in conjunction with the District 12 Medical Examiner’s Office.
This event was outside the scheduled hours of beach lifeguards.

 

The decedent has been identified as Vjatselav Belts, 66, of Hesperia, California, with family in Missouri and Estonia.
