Latest update on repairs to the S. Jetty in Venice

Council Member Smith: Unfortunately, the Army Corps has not given us a specific timeframe for the repairs. They have met with our staff onsite several times now and have indicated that the repairs are necessary and are their responsibility to resolve. The latest meeting we held with them indicated a two phase approach these repairs. Phase 1 would be a more expedited project to install limestone rocks by land to fill in the voids and allow the jetty walkway to reopen. Phase 2 would likely take a couple of years and would involve barging in large granite stones to be placed by water. These large stones would be used to rebuild the entire jetty and seawalls along the intracoastal waterway in this location. We will continue to reach out to the Corp for more information concerning the proposed schedule and share any new information with the community once received.
