Arrest Made In North Jetty Park Shooting

Franklin Roosevelt Raybon Jr. (9/14/01), of Port Charlotte, surrendered himself to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday afternoon. Raybon has been identified as the sole suspect in the shooting of Octavius Cornelius Lee Cummings Jr. (1/23/99) that occurred at the North Jetty Park in Nokomis on Sunday evening.

 

Sheriff’s deputies initially responded to a reported shooting at the North Jetty Park on Casey Key Rd. in Nokomis at approximately 7:16 p.m., Sunday, and found Octavius Cornelius Lee Cummings Jr. (1/23/99) of Port Charlotte, deceased. It is believed the shooting was the result of an altercation between both men at the park.

 

Raybon has been charged with second-degree murder and an additional charge of attempted felony murder for firing at another person near the victim; however, that person was not struck. He has been booked into the Sarasota County Correctional Facility.
