During today’s Venice City Council Meeting, the newest member of Venice Fire Rescue was sworn into her post by Mayor Nick Pachota and Deputy City Clerk Mercedes Barcia.

Misty, a two-year-old English Cream Golden Retriever, joins Venice Fire Rescue as a station dog trained to ease and mitigate signs and symptoms of emotional stress for first responders and victims.

“Our firefighters and paramedics often endure emotional and physical strain in the line of duty. Misty has been a great addition, already boosting morale with her calming presence on each shift,” said Assistant Fire Chief Kyle Hartley.

Venice Fire Rescue welcomed Misty in November 2023, and has spent several months acquainting her to the City’s three fire stations and her new bunkmates, over 70 firefighters and emergency medical personnel.

Venice Fire Rescue Firefighter Paramedic Ruth Ann Unruh says, “Misty knows when you need a little extra cuddle after a complicated call or situation, it’s really great having her here.”

Misty was donated to Venice Fire Rescue through the K9s For Warriors’ Station Dogs program at no cost. Generous donations from community partners will continue to cover her veterinarian visits and any future medical costs. Venice Fire Rescue is accepting donations for dog food and toys at Venice Fire Rescue Station 52, 200 Grove St. N, Venice, FL 34285.

Help us welcome Misty to Venice Fire Rescue! 🦮🚒❤️‍🔥
