It’s so nice not to live in a war zone, but VNC is a non-essential airport and something must be done about the noise

The closure has made a huge difference in the quality of our lives….airplanes have still landed, the flight school has continued, but not the constant assault over our homes, and the environment around us.VNC is a non-essential airport, and the planes have been able to land in the wind with one runway open….Many non-essential airports have only one runway. It’s so nice not to live in a war zone. It’s a reminder of how beautiful our Island is… Birds are chirping, and all is relieved….We can all open our doors and windows and breathe! We would like to suggest that this runway be permanently closed. The Runway can remain “X-ed” and available for government emergencies “only.”Why subject our citizens to the assault from people that do not live here?I remain hopeful for all of us living and breathing in Venice. Thanks for taking the time to read this. This can be done…..Thy will be done!Janice 🙏

> On Feb 16, 2024, at 9:43 AM, Janice >> Dear City of Venice,>> Thank you for listening, and approving the funds for the NA position Tuesday.> This is certainly a step in the right direction!>> We are hopeful that the job description for this new candidate will include, and be as such that the primary duty and role will be working as a liaison for noise control, runway planning and traffic control with the various entities using the airport, and making sure the correct procedures and laws are being followed.  Also, it would be most helpful to have this candidate work; Tues – Sunday.  We don’t need another Mon – Fri 9-5 er, and we need someone there on the weekends right from the start.>> It will be just a matter of time that folks will learn when this employee is working, and will abuse the system when they are not working. If anyone follows social media there is a lot of hateful rhetoric from people and yes, Pilots from areas right outside of Venice bc I have searched their backgrounds towards those of us that live by the airport and are concerned with noise. Some of these folks are flying over us!>> Re the noise it has been intolerable at night and in the morning.  The flight school is not being a good neighbor, and it appears as though they are purposefully circling over our homes.  It could be other pilots from other schools, but whoever this is, it is very abusive.>> The other issue is that in the late morning and in the late evening hours there is a lot of idling and fumes…It sounds as though there’s a shuttle service being run from there…We are planning on doing some neighborhood investigation into this…It has been so bad that we’ve had to keep our doors and windows closed, and that’s a real bummer not to enjoy our homes at this time of year.>> If someone could look into these last two issues, that it would be very much appreciated.>> If I could make a suggestion that the City Council Form an “Airport Committee” and have a Council Member, such as Ron Smith Chair the Committee, and work with a few people, Committee Members from Airport Neighborhoods. That would be very helpful, and it would serve as an oversight for all of this. I think that would help with transparency and be very helpful.>> And, again, we all remain very concerned that the Repavement is only 5000 feet, as we all know that would be helpful in containing this outgrown facility.>> Look forward to working together!>> Sincere Thanks,>> Janice >*******************************************
>> On Feb 4, 2024, at 9:48 PM, Janice >>>> To whom this may concern, and if this concerns anyone!>>>> The Airport is not what we all signed up for, and it has “OUTGROWN” Venice!>>>> We are hoping for a Noise Abatement Officer, but hopefully that’s not to placate any one.>>>> On Feb 3, 2024 at 10:30 am we had an ear splitting jet fly over our homes that did not follow the Fly Friendly procedure, and no side step procedure was used either. The Jet should have been on Runway 5 as the winds were in their favor. It was a Large Gulfstream III heading to Denton, Texas, and should not be flying in or out of our Municipal Airport.  Several of us called the Airport and left a message.  We will be filing a report with the FAA.>>>> The Noise was so awful around 150+ Decibels, and that can cause permanent ear damage…It caused immediate pain.>>>> This has to stop, and please let’s not try to be negligent with re-paving more than 5000 Feet of runway. We do not need an excuse or cushion for more loud, oversized jets.>>>> I don’t know who’s pocketing the money from the abuse that’s happening at our small town Airport, but it’s not the taxpayers.>>>> My question is, Why?>>>> Sincerely,>>>> Janice
