I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, drainage, retaining walls, and paving.
- Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.
- Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
- Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 72 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
- Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 72 through the duration of the construction.
- Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.
Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is mid-2024.
US 41 from North of Port Commons from north of Port Commons to State College of Florida: Construction project: Project improvements include milling and resurfacing, guardrail, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signalization improvements. Expected completion is fall 2024.
Daytime Activities:
- Install barrier walls for upcoming lane shifts and close median openings at Blackburn Boulevard and Ortega Place, Palm Harbor Drive, Riverwalk Drive and De Miranda Avenue, Boardwalk and Myakka Drive., as roadway crossover reconstruction.
- Daytime lane closures Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Nighttime Activities:
- Curb removal and turn lane reconstruction between Tuscola Boulevard and Ortiz Boulevard.
- Nighttime lane closures Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Motorists should use caution when making U-turns and be aware of workers in the area.
US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road is actively underway. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, as well as needed infrastructure improvements to drainage, curb and gutter.
- At the left turn from US 41 North turning onto SR 72 at Stickney Point towards Siesta Key, the lane width will be reduced. Please use caution as drivers acclimate.
- Medians: crews are shifting work to the median throughout the project limits. Motorists can expect limited access.
- From Caribbean Drive to Gulf Gate Road: Temporary lane closures will be necessary to maintain safety while work in the median is completed.
US 41 at Wellen Park Villages D&E Roundabouts: Permit project: Construction of two roundabouts is underway on US 41. Lane closures are required. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours.
- Village E at US 41 and Brimstone northbound recently implemented a traffic shift. This will move both lanes of traffic to the new pavement and partial roundabout.
- Please use caution in the area as motorists adapt.
SR 72 from Tamiami Trail to Honore Avenue: Permit project: From Monday night, February 26, through Thursday, February 29, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., crews will be performing pavement testing along this corridor. Motorists can expect alternating and intermittent east and westbound lane closures. Please use caution and watch for workers in the area.
SR 72 Clark Road and the Legacy Trail: Construction Project: Crews have begun constructing two new pedestrian bridges and intersection improvements along the Legacy Trail in Sarasota County. Expect noise from construction equipment, large trucks, and back-up alarms. Occasional nighttime shoulder and/or lane closures during construction to install beams will also be needed. Expected completion is winter 2024/2025. Occasional flagging operations will be needed. Use caution in the area as large vehicles enter/ exit the roadway.
- Occasional daytime flagging operations will be needed. Use caution in the area as large construction vehicles enter/ exit the roadway.
- Nighttime shoulder and/or lane closures to install beams will also be needed.
- Expected completion is winter 2024/2025.
SR 758 Bee Ridge Road at the Legacy Trail: Construction Project: Crews have begun constructing two new pedestrian bridges and intersection improvements along the Legacy Trail in Sarasota County. Expect noise from construction equipment, large trucks, and back-up alarms.
- Occasional daytime flagging operations will be needed. Use caution in the area as large construction vehicles enter/ exit the roadway.
- Nighttime shoulder and/or lane closures to install beams will also be needed.
- Expected completion is winter 2024/2025.
SR 777 River Road from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue and just north of Rambler’s Rest RV Park on the northbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Stoney Creek Boulevard. Drainage structures, pipe, curb and gutter, and gravity wall installations will also continue throughout the project. Signal, ITS and lighting work is also on-going throughout the project. Mowing will be taking place at various areas throughout the project and trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations.
SR 789 John Ringling Causeway Bridge: Construction project: Work is near complete and only temporary flagging operations are possible if required.
SR 789 from Longboat Club Road to SR 64: Construction project: Crews will be placing concrete sidewalks through the corridor. Temporary lane closures will be needed so motorists should use caution.
- Crews have begun overnight paving. Please use caution in the area.
SR 681 from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: The ongoing resurfacing project will improve drainage, provide a cross-slope correction for leveling and comfort, new guardrail, updated signing and marking, install intelligent transportation equipment and signalization. Paving on the project has started so motorists should expect temporary lane closures for the duration of the project.
- Crews will have intermittent lane closures from SR 681 at I-75, from Honore Avenue up to US 41 while they place sod.
- Motorists should anticipate slower moving traffic or consider an alternate route.
- Noise from construction equipment should be anticipated for the duration.
