NORTH PORT, FL – City Manager Jerome Fletcher reflected on the achievements and challenges in 2023 and why 2024 will be North Port’s most important year in his 2024 State of the City Address, delivered Thursday at the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting at Suncoast Technical College.

The speech outlined the many long-awaited projects beginning in 2024, including widening Price Boulevard and breaking ground on highly anticipated medical facilities.

“The path to success is never a straight line, and there have been plenty of challenges along the way. But we are continuing our momentum toward a bright future in 2024,” Fletcher said.

Fletcher thanked the City employees who continue to overcome and adapt to challenges presented by explosive growth. The City issued an unprecedented 23,000 permits in 2023, highlighting the big moves North Port is making.

2023 was the year of significant infrastructure groundbreakings, with the City’s installation of new water and sewer lines setting the stage for businesses to move in with ease and strengthen our workforce in 2024. From the Gateway Corridor at Sumter Boulevard and I-75 to Toledo Blade Boulevard and I-75, the economic future is bright.

In 2024, the focus will be sustainable growth and preparing our City and its residents for the changes on the horizon. By bringing on a new Natural Resources Division and updating the Unified Land Development Code, the changes will always keep North Port at the forefront with a focus on what’s best for our residents.

“As we prepare to celebrate North Port’s 65th anniversary in 2024, the future awaits,” Fletcher said. “We recognize there are some undeniable challenges and some serious needs to be filled. We also know that change is difficult, and make no mistake, North Port is changing. We believe the changes will be for the better.”
