Two cats die in a North Port house fire

2:15 p.m.
Firefighters are on scene of a house fire in the 4100 block of Sea Horse Ave. The fire was reported to be in the kitchen. Firefighters were on scene briefly before reporting the fire was out. No injuries have been reported.
UPDATE 2:32 p.m.
The fire is out. There is some degree of smoke damage throughout the home, but firefighters contained the fire to the area of origin in the kitchen. No one was home when the fire began, and sadly, two cats did not survive. The pets have been removed from the home and placed with the owners who have since arrived. The cause of the fire is still being determined, and firefighters are still working to remove residual smoke from the home.
