One man and four animals are found dead after a North Port fire is extinguished

North Port Fire Rescue responded to the 3800 block of Trenton Lane on Dec. 16 at 12:10 p.m. to check an extinguished fire. The call was upgraded to a residential structure fire response. Firefighters reported no fire was visible from the exterior upon arrival. Firefighters made their way inside to investigate and discovered an extinguished fire which appeared to have originated in the kitchen area of this single-story home. Smoke and soot were present throughout the home. Further investigation revealed an adult male deceased in a rear bedroom of the home. Two cats and two dogs also perished. Firefighters worked to ventilate the structure and ensured that all fire was extinguished. No working smoke alarms were present in the home. A joint investigation by the North Port Police Department and the State Fire Marshal is underway.
