Sarasota County offices closed for Thanksgiving

SARASOTA COUNTY – Most Sarasota County Government offices, including recreation centers, libraries and the Historical Resources Center, Sarasota County University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences Extension and Sustainability offices, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.   

Breeze Transit Schedule:

  • Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets will be closed. Standard routes and Breeze Plus will not be serviced.
  • Breeze Siesta Key and Breeze OnDemand will operate the modified hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

 Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources:

  • Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range will be closed Nov. 22 and Nov. 23. The range will resume normal hours 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24.

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County:

  • FDOH in Sarasota County will be closed Nov. 22 through Nov. 24.

Solid Waste Collections: 

All solid waste facilities, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center and the Chemical Collection Centers will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23.

Due to Thanksgiving Day, there will be a one-day shift to the regular collection schedule for trash, recycling and yard waste after the holiday. Curbside collection services for trash, recycling and yard waste will run as follows:

  • Monday, Nov. 20, Tuesday, Nov. 21 and Wednesday, Nov. 22 – no changes
  • Thursday, Nov. 23 – no collection services
  • All remaining collections delayed by one day due to the holiday
  • Friday, Nov. 24 – collection for Thursday customers
  • Saturday, Nov. 25 – collection for Friday customers

Because collection times vary, residents should place materials at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of pickup.

Sarasota County’s Chemical Collection Center and The Re-Uz-It Shop at 8750 Bee Ridge Road will be closed on Friday, Nov. 24. The Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center remains closed due to the impacts from Hurricane Ian.

The Citizens’ Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road, Nokomis, will be closed Thursday but will be open Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Central County Landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road, Nokomis, will be closed Thursday but will be open Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The landfill will remain open until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25 due to the holiday collection schedule, however the Construction and Demolition (C&D) area will close at 2 p.m. All hand unloads must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
