CITY OF NORTH PORT, FL – Celebrating its tradition of fostering a thriving business community, the City of North Port once again played host to the successful Business Welcome in Q2 2023, for new businesses who joined the City in April, May and June 2023. The City proudly celebrated the addition of 71 new businesses during this quarter at Saturday’s event.

The newly inducted members of North Port’s flourishing entrepreneurial scene were all publicly acknowledged, each receiving signed certificates, taking part in a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony and meeting community partners committed to their growth and success.

Vinnie Mascarenhas, the recently appointed manager of the City’s Economic Development Division, underlined the importance of these early connections. “Building these relationships during the critical early-growth phase of a local business’s journey is our team’s priority,” Mascarenhas said. “This is the moment when we, along with our community partners, can make a real impact, helping new businesses forge vital connections and navigate the North Port market.”

The event also served as a platform for the newcomers to introduce their business concepts, mingle with City staff, dignitaries, and local partners and meet with business development organizations. These included representatives from the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), the Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of South Florida (SBDC Tampa Bay), CareerSource Suncoast and the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce, among others. These organizations provide essential resources, tools and support that contribute to the dynamic growth of North Port’s emerging business landscape.

Today, economic tides are robust in Sarasota County, arguably the strongest they’ve ever been. The community is amidst a transformation, with new developments like Downtown Wellen Park. Simultaneously, the expansion of high-tech manufacturing, warehouse and logistics centers along I-75 in North Port are significant contributors to this change. Further underlining North Port’s appeal, the May 2023 LinkedIn Workforce Report ranked North Port-Sarasota, FL among the top U.S. cities witnessing a high influx of people. Specifically, the region welcomed 111 new arrivals for every 10,000 LinkedIn members over the past year, a testament to the community’s prosperity.

City Manager Jerome Fletcher lauded this vibrant entrepreneurial spirit.

“The rapid emergence and success of small businesses here is nothing short of extraordinary,” Fletcher said. “It’s not merely growth – it’s transformative, reshaping our economic landscape at a pace that’s exhilarating and awe-inspiring.”
