The Sarasota County Croquet Club (SCCC), in partnership with the City of Venice and Sarasota County, is expanding its current footprint located at Wellfield Park by one additional field, from six fields to seven. The SCCC is the largest club in the U.S. Croquet Association and this project has been a work in progress for the last couple of years. Construction is set to begin this month.
With the addition of the new field and changes to the existing fields, there will be some changes to the nearby disc golf course, due to the fact the existing court area will be expanded slightly to the north and also to the east. Although this expansion will require some changes to the noted course, they have already been discussed, mapped out and a plan of action is in place. All nine disc golf holes will remain. Please see changes listed below:
Trees and stumps have been approved for removal and construction will begin Wednesday, March 8. After completion of the tree and stump removal, the disc golf hole relocation will begin. The course will be closed March 8-22 to provide ample time to make sure all items are complete. As soon as the course is reopened, the public will be notified.
Hole #3 will need to be completely relocated. A new tee pad will be installed and both flag anchors will also be relocated. The tee on Hole #9 will be relocated and both basket anchors relocated as well. The tee pad will only move a few feet and reorient north-south. See attached map. The relocation of these holes will be a collaboration between the City and the County.
