North Port: Deadlines for debris collection, FEMA assistance set for next week

CITY OF NORTH PORT, FL – City of North Port residents should place all Hurricane Ian debris curbside by Monday, Jan. 9, as collection crews make their final round of pickups. 

Residents with debris remaining after this date will need to contact the Solid Waste Division at 941-240-8050 to utilize a bulk pickup. View more information and FAQs at NorthPortFL.gov/Debris 

 

Crews have collected an estimated 2.1 million cubic yards of vegetation debris and 250,000 cubic yards of C&D throughout the City since the hurricane struck in September. Over 41,000 truckloads of debris have been moved from City streets to local debris management sites, where they are safely stored, processed and then transported. 

 

FEMA, SBA deadline is Jan. 12; DRC to close 

 

The deadline for Sarasota County residents impacted by the hurricane to apply for either FEMA Individual Assistance or Small Business Administration assistance is Thursday, Jan. 12.  

 

For questions about your FEMA Individual Assistance application, call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. For questions about your Small Business Administration assistance application, call the SBA Helpline at 800-659-2955. 

 

Citizens can also receive in-person assistance at the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Shannon Staub Library, 4675 Career Lane, North Port. The DRC will be open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 6-7, and next Monday-Thursday, Jan. 9-12. The site will cease operations at 7 p.m. Jan. 12, to coincide with the application deadline.
