Sen. Murphy Calls For Defunding Law Enforcement Who Refuse to Enforce Gun Laws

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) blamed the latest shooting at a Colorado gay nightclub on law enforcement in certain counties who are refusing to comply with unconstitutional firearm restrictions, calling for them to be defunded.
CNN anchor Dana Bash pointed out that Joe Biden’s recent gun control legislation did nothing to prevent these mass shootings in Colorado and Virginia.
“Five months, it’s been that long since the president signed a bipartisan bill. You helped negotiate it. It incentivized states to implement red flag laws. Virginia and Colorado, where these mass shootings took place over the last ten days or so, they already have red flag laws in place, and it did not prevent those mass shootings,” Bash noted.
True to form, Murphy simply blamed the massacres on the Second Amendment and certain counties who’ve refused to implement Biden’s gun control measures.
“What we learned in Colorado is that the county in which the shooting happened is a so-called 2nd Amendment sanctuary state. I think the country is going to have to learn about what’s going on in this country,” Murphy said.
“The majority of counties in this country have declared they’re not going to enforce state and federal gun laws. They’ve decided they’re going to essentially refuse to implement laws that are on the books. That is a growing problem in this country.”
“And I think we’re going to have to have a conversation about that in the United States Senate,” he continued. “Do we want to continue to supply funding in law enforcement in counties that refuse to implement state and federal gun laws? Red flag laws are wildly popular.”
Bash asked if he wants to “withhold money from law enforcement,” to which Murphy replied that a “conversation” must be had about that.
“I think which have to have a conversation about whether we can continue to fund law enforcement in states where they’re refusing to implement these gun laws,” he said. “I’ll talk to my colleagues about what our approach should be to this problem. But 60% of counties in this country are refusing to implement the nation’s gun laws. we’ve got to do something about that.”
Hundreds of counties across the U.S. had already vowed not to enforce unconstitutional red flag laws before Biden signed his gun control bill into law.
Ironically, violent crimes in the U.S. have skyrocketed in recent years – especially in blue cities – in large part to the left’s radical “defund the police” initiatives, bail reform, and soft-on-crime district attorneys aligned with the Democrats.
The fact isn’t stopping Democrats from trying to politicize every shooting they can to further limit the Second Amendment, with Biden recently calling to ban the sales of all semi-automatic firearms – which comprise about 20% of firearms in the U.S. – following the Colorado gay nightclub shooting.
“The idea we still allow semi-automatic weapons to be purchased is sick,” said Biden. “It has no socially redeeming value…Not a single solitary rationale for it except profit for the gun manufacturers.”
