CITY OF NORTH PORT, FL – The City of North Port held its first Quarterly Business Welcome (QBW) on Tuesday for new businesses in the area. City staff and officials joined with partners from the Sarasota County Economic Development Corporation (EDC), the U.S. Small Business Administration’s SCORE, the Florida Small Business Development Center (FL SBDC), CareerSource Suncoast, and the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce to welcome these new businesses to the City and network with them on various resources available to help ensure success as they venture into the North Port market.
“It takes a lot of courage and enterprise to go out on your own and open up a business, and we take pride in recognizing our entrepreneurial community with this first-of-its-kind Quarterly Business Welcome,” said Jerome Fletcher, North Port City Manager. “Despite the damage caused by Hurricane Ian, our City is still growing and remains hugely attractive to new businesses. Thank you for bringing your business to North Port and improving our quality of life.”
In the last fiscal quarter (July, August, and September of 2022) the City of North Port gained 58 new businesses. The QBW event acknowledged these businesses with signed certificates and ribbon-cutting photos.
“The City’s Economic Development Division has a vested interest in seeing our new businesses thrive,” said Mel Thomas, Manager of the Economic Development Division (EDD). “Not only is this ongoing Quarterly Business Welcome a first-of-its-kind for our City, but to my knowledge it’s a first in our region. For the smaller and home-based new businesses that are not members of a chamber of commerce, the North Port EDD serves to meet your needs and our new businesses are a vital and welcome addition to our community.”
