Richard Longo steps into the City of Venice council race challenging Ron Smith for Seat 2
Francesco Abbruzzino, The Uncensored Report, LLC
** Update on Seat 5 is below, in the Tanya Parus race.
It looks like we have a race for Seat 2 in the City of Venice. Richard Longo has stepped up to challenge Ron Smith for a seat that had been vacated by Brian, then the council appointed Rachel Frank, and is now up for a vote by the residents. Dick (Richard) has been a very vocal advocate on numerous issues facing the city for years. He is known for standing up to developers and the one thing I know him from are the candidate forums within the Sawgrass community. Whomever wins the race will serve the remaining one-year of the three-year seat and have to run for election again next year.
Rachel Frank is leaving Seat 2 and running for Seat 6, which was vacated by Joe Nuender. Joe’s three-year term was up this November and he had to withdraw his seat to meet the requirements of running for the county commission. Rachel is right leaning and as of today is unchallenged.
Tanya Parus is a virtual unknown and running for Seat 5, who has some connect with Mothers for Liberty. So, I am assuming she is right leaning, and we will have to wait for the debates to see where she stands on the issues impacting the city. ** Update ** Richard Howard has jumped into this race. I am not sure of his political affiliations in this non-partisan race.
Nick Pachota is vacating his council seat and running for Seat 7 or the mayor. In years past there has always been many challengers, so I am surprised that with just a few days left to file, that there are no challengers. I know on the Republican side, many individuals are not running because the party leaders like Jack Brill, Pat Neal and others have given the nod to Nick. Feinsod is on vacation and gets back during qualifying week. He was seen picking up the paperwork to run, so there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding him. I do believe he is going to run.
Any resident of the City of Venice who has been a registered voter in the city for 12 consecutive months prior to the first day of qualifying shall be eligible to hold the office of mayor or city council member. A resident, for the purpose of qualifying for office, shall be a person whose principal place of physical residence is in the city on a continuing basis.
The qualifying officer is located at Venice City Hall, 401 W. Venice Ave., Room 101, Venice, Florida.
The qualifying week for the 2022 election begins at 12 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, and ends at 12 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, 2022.
Once you’ve decided, go ahead, and give the city a call at 941-882-7390 to schedule an appointment with the City Clerk.
