Broken force main leads to a 2500 gallon sewage spill that made it into the surface waters of the bay in Sarasota

Incident Description
Staff responded to a call regarding sewage spilling into the street at 4250 Camino Real. Upon investigation, crews identified a broken 6-inch force main on Camino Real. On-call staff isolated the force main by shutting off a valve and stopping the flow from Vacuum Station 076-001(Red Rock VPS). Crews were able to repair the force main and returned the vacuum station to service. Approximately 2,500 gallons of sewage were spilled into an adjacent stormwater structure making its way into the nearby surface waters of the bay. About 500 gallons of sewage were recovered from the stormwater structure. Notifications and cleanup are proceeding per protocol. Spill sampling is required.
