Incident Description
Utility operations staff responded to a call regarding a sanitary sewer main damaged by an outside contractor performing underground utility work in front of 240 Center Rd. in Venice. When crews arrived, they confirmed that the 6-inch sanitary sewer force main had been damaged during the boring of conduit. Crews isolated the force main by shutting off a nearby valve. Approximately 4,000 gallons of raw wastewater spilled into an open ditch along the road. Crews recovered about 3,800 gallons. Clean-up and notifications are proceeding according to protocol. No spill samples are necessary. A claim will be filed with Risk for this incident.
