Information on the Rattlesnake Island Enhancement Project

Following mid-June, #SRQCountyParks will begin a habitat enhancement project on Turner Key, otherwise known as Rattlesnake Island (not to be confused with WCIND-owned Snake Island to the south).

This project will include the removal of invasive exotic plant species, planting of native species and improvement of the existing hiking trail. The most noticeable work will be the removal of several Australian pine trees. All vegetation removed will be replaced with a diverse sizing of native trees to help create shade and provide suitable habitat for wildlife.
