In advance of the start of hurricane season June 1, the City of Venice has launched a series of informative videos addressing the upcoming storm season, as well as the City of Venice Hurricane Guide, updated for 2022.

The goal of these videos is to help educate the community on many hurricane topics, including storm preparation and response, flood mitigation and stormwater management, the transportation plan for area evacuation centers (shelters), when to stay put vs. evacuate, and dispelling hurricane myths. Speakers include Venice Fire Rescue Chief Frank Giddens, City Engineer Kathleen Weeden, Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief Ed McCrane, and ABC-7 Meteorologist Bob Harrigan. The videos can be found here.

The City’s 2022 Hurricane Guide is attached. Hard copies are available at the Information Center at Venice City Hall, 401 W. Venice Ave.

The videos and updated hurricane guide can also be found on the City website, www.venicegov.com, in several locations by hovering on the top homepage headers “I Want To,” “Residents,” and “Government/Fire.”

www.venicegov.com also includes other links to storm-related information including additional hurricane guides, evacuation routes, supply lists, special needs/medically dependent registration, and pet preparedness.  That guide can be viewed by clicking — >>> here.
