Come celebrate the new North Port Public Safety Complex

City of North Port, FL – The City of North Port and Wellen Park are excited to announce an open house for the new $13-million, 24,300-square-foot City of North Port Public Safety Complex.

The facility is a combination Fire station and Police substation. Fire Station 86 is the City’s sixth fire house. “The City of North Port and Wellen Park continue to grow,” North Port Fire Chief Scott Titus said. “We are thankful for all the leaders who made it possible for us to continue our top rate service by being housed in a first-class facility.”
The new Station 86 will also provide offices, sleeping quarters and support space for the City of North Port and Sarasota County in this shared facility. NPFR will have seven personnel on site including the District Chief and Fire Inspector. The Sarasota County Fire Department will have an additional five personnel on site to help service unincorporated areas nearby. There will be a Ladder Truck (NPFR), Engine (SCFD), Two Rescues (1 each from NPFR & SCFD), Two Brush Trucks (1 each from NPFR & SCFD), one UTV and one Soft Side Boat at the facility.
On NPPD’s side, this is the Police Department’s second substation. “We will have more than a dozen personnel located at the new facility. We are now fully entrenched in the Wellen Park community,” North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison said.
NPPD’s law enforcement Training Division will be housed at the new building. They will have around 18 full time staff at the facility.
In addition to the Public Safety Building, the complex includes a rescue helipad, 1,600-square-foot police garage for support equipment and dedicated parking for police and fire personnel, as well as visitors. The facility also showcases NPFR’s vintage 1946 Seagrave Fire truck. Other highlights include a four-bay, double-deep, 7,000-square foot apparatus room to house rescue vehicles
The complex was funded by the developer of Wellen Park who will then be paid back from impact fees collected in that area over time. “As we continue experiencing sizable growth, we’re pleased to partner with the City to ensure fire, police and other emergency services are readily available for our current and future residents,” President of Wellen Park, Rick Severance said.
Personnel plan to move in either the week of or week after the ribbon-cutting takes place.
The Public Safety Complex is located along Tamiami Trail at the intersection of Preto Boulevard. It was built by Willis Smith Construction and designed by Plunkett Raysich Architects. Engineering work was completed by Snell Engineering Consultants, AM Engineering Inc., Kimley-Horn and Quest Design Group.
