Wednesday morning around 6:40am two North Port High School female students (14 and 15 years of age) were struck by a single vehicle near the intersection of Chamberlain Blvd and Hamilton Ave. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene. NPPD and NPFR responded. Both students were ground transported to SMH main, one with relatively minor injuries (14) and one as a trauma alert (15). Our Traffic Homicide Unit responded and is working the investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver is not at fault. The students were struck by the vehicle as they were crossing the street in an unmarked intersection, giving little to no time for the driver to react. The roadway is now back open.
