During the annual planning retreat on Friday, Dec. 10, the Sarasota County Board of County Commission laid the foundation for next year’s strategic priorities and goals. The board’s priorities focus on adding value to the community and building robust and diverse opportunities for residents, visitors and business owners.
The commissioners will continue to focus on crucial action items including water quality initiatives, capital project management, facility planning, mental health and substance abuse, destination athletic fields, and affordable housing, as well as additional priorities discussed today. These include advanced wastewater treatment, roadway improvements, comprehensive plan amendments, an indoor multi-use sports facility, and developing sidewalks plans that connect to schools and The Legacy Trail.
The board will finalize their strategic priorities during the Jan. 11, 2022, commission meeting. The Sarasota County Board of County Commission webpage will be updated in January 2022 to reflect these changes and the board’s committee appointments.
Also during the retreat, Alan Maio, District 4, was selected as chairman for 2022; Ron Cutsinger, District 5, as vice chair; and Christian Ziegler, District 2, as pro tem. They’ll hold these positions for the 2022 calendar year.
The chair presides at commission meetings and represents the board during ceremonial functions and the vice chair assumes duties for the chairman when he is unavailable.
