Now is the time to write the Venice council with nominees for the vacated seat, so that the residents have a voice versus the council selecting an insider of their choice

The City of Venice should be discussing how to fill the newly vacated city council seat, after one of their members abruptly resigned last week. You can read more about that by clicking — >>> here.

The city council will decide who will fill that position. The questions that remain are will the person fill the position until the next election or until the seat terms out in two years.

Now is the time to start writing the council and offering up names of individuals that you would like to fill the seat. The residents should have a voice, versus the council picking inside cronies to fill it. Here are the only requirements to fill the seat:

Live within the city limits. I have included a map of the city limits, which often confuse individuals.
Live within the city limits as a registered voter for one year

I would add one more thing to the list and that is to have some knowledge of the issues facing the city. The last few candidates had very little knowledge of the issues that the council faces, excluding Helen Moore.

If you know of a candidate, talk to them first before submitting their name. We do not want another resignation because a council member can not live up to the commitment of the office. I have been asked by some if I would be interested and I have said that I would take the seat if offered. I state that because I know the requirements and commitment of the job. So, I can’t put enough emphasis on ensuring that you know what is expected, prior to throwing your hat in the ring. Also, make sure anybody you suggest to the council, knows that it pays just over 10k and requires a commitment that should payout over 30k.

So, if you or if you know of someone that you would like to fill the seat, now is the time to send the council an email. I believe the conversation will start on Tuesday and then I suspect they will put forth some names and put them to a vote during the January 11^th council meeting.
