SPD, members from Sarasota County Schools, and SCSO conducted a training scenario today at Sarasota High

??TRAINING??On Friday, July 16, 2021, the Sarasota Police Department Training Unit held an active shooter training scenario at Sarasota High School.
Officers who responded were not told about the training and did not know they would be handling a training scenario for an active shooter.
 
What the Training Unit was looking to do was expose potential weaknesses and deficiencies that can be addressed later in subsequent training.
 
Additionally, supervisors responded and discussed the management of an active shooter incident because of the complexity of the call and the amount of issues that don’t come up in every other critical incident.
In addition to Sarasota Police officers, members from Sarasota County Schools and Sarasota County (FL) Sheriff’s Office Dispatch responded.
