Suncoast: Network of organizations conduct a 2-week long beautification venture inside Charlotte homeless camps – Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office

At the beginning of March, a network of organizations came together to conduct a 2-week long beautification venture on Kenesaw St. and surrounding areas in Port Charlotte. This network included the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Keep Charlotte Beautiful, Charlotte County Solid Waste, the Homeless Coalition, St. Maximilian Church, Jesus Loves You ministry, and the Florida Department of Corrections. The location is known for having a large homeless population who often camp in the wooded areas around the Homeless Coalition.

Approximately 40 volunteers (totaling more than 250 manpower hours) worked diligently to remove trash and debris from the area. The project required a front-end loader, grapple rig, and other machinery – which were used to fill one 40-yd. and two 20-yd. waste containers plus an additional 4 dumpsters. Altogether, more than 112 yards worth of trash was cleared. The county then rough-cut mowed and cleared large amounts of brush as well.

This project serves as an example of what our community is all about: working together to make sure Charlotte County remains the best place to live, work, and play. Special thanks to all involved!
