A Seawind 3000 experimental single-engine aircraft attempted to land at the Venice Municipal Airport today (2/18) around 1:20 p.m. The plane’s landing gear did not fully engage, causing the wheels to collapse upon touching down. This caused the aircraft to skid approximately 620 feet on its belly before coming to a stop in the middle of Runway 13 at the Airport. The male pilot was not injured. A note that this type of aircraft is built to land on land or water.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been contacted to investigate the incident. Venice Police, Venice Fire Rescue and Sarasota County Sheriff’s personnel responded. Sarasota Avionics also assisted with clearing the aircraft from the runway.
