North Port reminds people that it is not a good idea to use the recycle box for ammunition or muriatic acid

City of North Port
Yesterday, one of our Solid Waste drivers noticed smoke coming from inside the truck load! The recyclable material was unloaded and Fire Rescue was called. After inspecting the load to find the cause, we found a bottle of muriatic acid, an e-cigarette battery, acetone and ammunition. None of which, are accepted in our recycling program.
The good news is, both the driver and truck were safe! They are both back on a route collecting recyclables today. This is another reason why it’s important we recycle right!
Reminder: Our annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event is scheduled for Saturday, March 13. Mark your calendars!
