Contractor error leads to a 15,000 wastewater spill in Venice

Pursuant to Section 403.077, F.S., the Department of Environmental Protection has received the following Public Notice of Pollution for a reportable release. All information displayed was submitted by the reporting party.

Incident Description
County utility crews responded to a call regarding a possible sewer leak at Jacaranda road and I75. Initial investigation revealed a 12-inch force main had been damaged by a contractor working in the right-of-way. County crews isolated the force main and completed the necessary repairs. Approximately 15,000 gallons of wastewater spilled on to the adjacent dry retention area. Approximately 15,000 gallons of wastewater was recovered by county contractors. No surface waters were impacted, no sampling required. Clean up and notifications are proceeding per protocol. Risk will be notified to seek recovery from the contractor.
