Sarasota Sheriff warns the public about a scam voice mail message from them
By Francesco Abbruzzino
This is an audio recording of a voicemail left on the cell phone of a Sarasota County resident. It is SCAM and here is why:
1. We do not have a “Lieutenant James Perry.”
2. We are the “Sarasota County Sheriff’s OFFICE,” not “Department.”
3. No one here has an extension of “2.”
4. Most importantly, we do not send automated messages DEMANDING you call us.
The only exception to automated calls is reverse-911 during emergency situations. While this voicemail may seem like an obvious scam to you, it has the potential to confuse people, particularly our senior citizens.
Please help spread the word and DO NOT BECOME A VICTIM.
