The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office placed an employee on administrative leave after the Sarasota Police Department notified our agency of an active criminal investigation.
The sheriff’s office was alerted Tuesday to possible criminal charges against Eric Farnsworth, 42, of Sarasota. He was immediately placed on administrative leave.
Today, after establishing probable cause, detectives with the Sarasota Police Department issued a warrant for Farnsworth’s arrest on a single count of Sexual Battery (Familial or Custodial). He turned himself into the Sarasota County Correctional Facility this evening however, prior to his booking, Farnsworth was transported to the hospital for self-inflicted injuries. Upon his release from the hospital, he will be booked into the facility and held without bond until he is seen by a judge.
Farnsworth’s status on administrative leave is in accordance with the Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights. He was hired in 2004.
