Francesco Abbruzzino: I talked to my family today that is now going through another lock down in Calabria Italia

I talked to my step mom who lives in Calabria Italy today and asked her how it was going with her, my two sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt’s and uncles. For those of you that do not know, they have locked down Calabria in the south and two regions in the north.

Calabria is basically a third world country, which has been forgotten about by Rome. Unemployment is through the roof and inflation is through the roof, every since the Euro was introduced life has been hard.

With this lockdown only the pharmacy, grocery stores, gas, and Tabaco shops are allowed to stay open. Somebody made a great point, how about instead of locking down, opening up the hospitals and bringing in some quality care. I have shared the story of when one of my sister gave birth in Crotone. I was in the waiting room with my brother-in-law and there was blood all over the floor. It was from the night before….. I went to the bathroom and there was no soap. You have to bring your own. Just some of the issues I encountered while there. 🙂

My step mom said that the streets are like a deserted town, poverty is everywhere because people could not work before and with the lock down it is even worse. The shop keepers are without money because they have to close down again, yet that has not stopped the Italian government from demanding their taxes. She said the Calabrese people hope all will end soon, but have little doubt and suspect that once they can open back up, it will be to late.

The news there is like here in the states making a big issue out of the number of positive patients, not really discussing the fatalities because that number is not that high. There are 15 positives in my families town of about 20,000 people. The one concerning issues is the only quality healthcare is about 45 minutes from their town, in Crotone or Cosenza. There is so much hype around the positive number that it is really upsetting the population. They tend to take what the media states as fact and do not understand how media really is in regards to pushing a narrative, which is not always accurate or what we call fake news.

Below are some of the video’s of protest taking place throughout Calabria.
