Watch as the Venice Police and SCSO rescue a husband and wife that were caught in a rip-current at the jetty

Here’s video from a marine rescue yesterday at 3:30pm at the South Jetty. A husband and wife visiting from California decided to go for a swim when they were caught in a rip-current and seperated. The husband was washed into the rocks and thankfully only had minor cuts. The wife was pulled further out.
The Venice PD marine vessel responded to the call to assist. Marine Officer Joyce responded piloting our VPD marine vessel and was assisted by SCSO Marine Deputy Fandozzi. Ofc. Joyce piloted the boat in some heavy waves that threated to wash them into the rocks as Dep. Fandozzi succesfully threw a rescue line to the female swimmer and pulled her onto the boat. Great Teamwork!
We’ve had several rip-tide related incidents lately. Knowing how to recognize them and what to do is key to surviving. Here’s a link with info on rip-currents. https://oceantoday.noaa.gov/ripcurrentscience/welcome.html
