Sarasota: Broken force main leads to a 9,200 gallon sewage spill

Last Tuesday, #SRQCountyUtilities crews responded to a call regarding a broken force main near 4783 Fruitville Road. Upon investigation, they discovered that a contractor operating a direction drill struck the county’s eight-inch force main. 

 

In an abundance of caution, the crews recovered 9,200 gallons of sewage and standing stormwater with the vac trucks. No bodies of water were impacted, no sampling is required. Clean up and notifications are proceeding according to protocol. 

 

An incident report is being filed with Sarasota County’s risk department to recover costs from the contractor.
