Good morning,

I am writing about concerns I have about the South jetty.  My husband and I regularly bicycle there and sit to relax and enjoy the birds and boats. Yesterday, I walked out the jetty around 4:30 -5PM  as I usually do. I saw an unbelievable amount of fishing line lying all around at the furthest third of the jetty. I picked up one large tangled bundle and deposited in the designated container but noticed it was full. There was also trash and cigarette butts lying out on the furtherest section of the jetty. It really saddened me. Ultimately, this will end up in the water. It seems fishermen in general are pigs. We see the same trash problems frequented by fishermen down at Cape haze.

After bicycling we returned for “Takeout” at the Crows Nest and thought we would eat in our car at the jetty around (6PM). It was very full and what is concerning is the number of young people with trucks who gather, play REALLY LOUD music and are quite intimidating. This isn’t the first time we have witnessed this. They parked so as to almost completely block traffic exiting.   With more snowbirds returning as well as visitors perhaps a policeman or guard should be present 5 to closing?  And in regards to the jetty itself couldn’t a retiree volunteer program be initiated where a “good-will” volunteer with an official shirt roamed the jetty and area to lessen the violations of smoking, dogs and trash/fishing lines on the jetty?  When we were in Oregon we saw this kind of program work well.

The jetty park is a very special treasure for Venice and it is sad to see it sinking in beauty and serenity.  Many folks come to read and just be still to relax. Loud rap music and roaring car/ruck engines etc  does not allow for quiet relaxation nor does it make one feel safe.

Thank you.
