Sarasota Police Conducting Shooting Investigation

The victim in today’s shooting has died and Sarasota Police are now classifying this as a homicide investigation.

 
The victim, a 34 year old black man, has died as a result of a gunshot wound. The name of the victim is not being released at this time. Detectives are working to notify his next of kin.

 
Sarasota Police detectives do not believe this is a not a random act of violence. The search for a suspect remains underway.

Sarasota Police are investigating a shooting with two possible crime scene locations. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
 
Sarasota Police officers believe a shooting happened just before 2 p.m. near Leon Avenue and 24th Street. The victim, a black man believed to be in his 30s or 40s, was shot and jumped into an SUV.
 
That SUV was found by Sarasota Police officers near 21st Street and Palmadelia Avenue with the victim inside. Officers called for emergency rescue immediately. The victim was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries.
 
Officers are looking for a suspect but a description is unknown.
