Outrage as the Sarasota County School board stereotyped the parents watching via Youtube trolls

SC School Board calls YouTube participants “Trolls” It is absolutely disgusting that during this morning’s school board workshop, Sarasota school staff referred to people participating in open government via youtube as trolls. The SB and SCS owe an apology to all those who were and are correctly participating in open/active discussion (per current policy)that was not and is not of a derogatory nature.

Letter to School board Members & Dr. Asplen: The school board and SCS owe the public an apology for their combined reference today to public, open-government participants in YouTube airings/chats as Trolls. Not all who participate in public chat do so with derogatory intent or criminal conduct. Some of us are there to learn, out of authentic concern and care.

The fact that no one challenged this stereotyping of YouTube participants today is indicative of deeper, systemic thought within the school system that is counter intuitive to progress and trust.

All persons who uttered the word troll need to be counseled accordingly. We seek an immediate retraction of that word with a public apology at this afternoon’s session.
