City of Venice votes to extend their mask mandate that lacks any effectiveness, but finally approval requires a second reading on 9.22

It has a second reading prior to being extended.  To be quite honest, the exceptions render this ordinance useless.  Many individuals are ignoring it or just claiming the exception, as am I.  I am suprised that with all the downward trends and the backlash from business owners, that they are continuing this mandate.  Some have questioned if Helen Moore who is  pushing this vote through has received backlash from her real estate business and question is that is why she had a sudden change of heart and is not for the mandate…………….

City of Venice

Venice City Council passed an ordinance on first reading today (Tuesday, Sept. 8) which would extend the current requirement for face coverings in the City through Oct. 31. The ordinance passed 4-3, with Mayor Feinsod and Council Members Cautero, Moore and Fiedler in agreement. There will be a final reading of the ordinance at the Sept. 22 Council meeting.

The current mask ordinance passed by City Council on Aug. 25 expires Sept. 24.

There are 14 exceptions to the ordinance, including those observing social distancing, young children, those exercising, and persons whose compliance would be detrimental to their health, safety or welfare are not required to wear a face covering.

It is the intent of the ordinance to seek voluntary compliance and to educate and warn of the dangers of non-compliance. However, in the event voluntary compliance is not achieved, then as a last resort, a violation of the ordinance shall be a noncriminal civil infraction, which carries a penalty of up to $500.
