The City of North Port will be installing license plate readers starting in October

The City of North Port is set to roll out some more big brother tools from the toolbox, introducing license plate readers in October.
The cameras will scan all individual license plates and run them against a state and national database.
The city will spend just over one million dollars to install 23 cameras over the next couple of years. As with all draconian actions such as this, they are saying it is for the safety and security of the public. I can see that, and I get how it could help in terms of crime, but I am always weary when the government introduces more and more big brother technology.
The NPPD is hoping that the cameras will cut down the hour’s detectives work to solve crimes and will make North Port a safer community.
