#HappeningNow: Sarasota Police Responding to Barricaded Man Inside Home

David Conrad, 34, of Sarasota, has been arrested and is facing charges of felony battery / domestic battery by strangulation and resisting an officer without violence. Conrad is also being held at the Sarasota County Jail on a warrant for violation of probation out of Manatee County.
Sarasota Police officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of 40th Street, Sarasota, at around 11 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2020, after a 911 call was made from the home for a domestic battery. When officers arrived and attempted to speak with Conrad, he was uncooperative, implied he had a weapon and ran back inside the home, refusing to come outside. Officers learned a woman and 5-year-old child were also inside the home with Conrad.
Sarasota Police SWAT and CNU (Crisis Negotiation Unit) were called out around 1 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2020, after multiple attempts to have Conrad come out of the home peacefully were unsuccessful.
Conrad exited the home peacefully at approximately 6 a.m. after hours of negotiation and surrendered to officers. Conrad was taken into custody without further incident or without force being used. He was transported to the Sarasota County Jail where he is currently being held on no bond.
No further updates are expected today.

Officers with the Sarasota Police Department SWAT and CNU (Crisis Negotiation Unit) are on scene of a barricaded man in the 1200 block of 40th Street, Sarasota.
Old Bradenton Road is currently closed from 39th Street to 41st Street. Citizens are being asked to avoid the area while officers are working.
Sarasota Police officers responded around 11pm Sunday, August 30, 2020, after a 911 call was made from the home.
When officers responded and attempted to speak with the man, he spoke with officers briefly before running back into the home and not coming out after multiple attempts by officers.
SWAT and CNU were called out around 1am after attempts to have the man come out of the home were unsuccessful.
The man has a criminal history including charges out of Manatee County of fleeing to elude, robbery with a firearm and drug possession. He’s currently wanted for Violation of Probation for multiple property crimes including grand theft.
There is believed to be a small child and woman inside the home. Officers have been in contact with the suspect multiple times. It’s unknown if there are weapons in the home.
Sarasota Police officers responded to this same address once before two weeks ago for a domestic battery call.
