Sarasota removes a confederate monument dedicated to Judah P Benjamin under the cover of night

Tom Barwin is the City Manager of Sarasota and has been in the news a lot lately, pushing the city council to mandate mask inside and outside within the city limits.

Now he has talked the city council into removing a Confederate statue of Judah Benjamin.  Judah Philip Benjamin, QC was a lawyer and politician who was a United States Senator from Louisiana, a Cabinet officer of the Confederate States and, after his escape to the United Kingdom at the end of the American Civil War, an English barrister. Wikipedia

Barwin told the Herald: “honestly do not know one person who would wish to continue to utilize public property to pay any respect, tribute or prestige to the single worst atrocity and genocide in human history.”

What are your thoughts?  Maybe you are for the removal of the statue, but shouldn’t there have been a public conversation about it, versus the City Manager and council acting under the cover of night?
