Venice Mayor is tired of excuses for not mandating face mask.  Is it me or was his missing when he interrupted the police the other day?

Mandatory use of masks in public

Hi Kathleen,
I have been advocating for and pushing for requirement for facemasks for months now. I have fought for this both at the city level and the county level, I have even spoken to the state healthcare representative to the county.
After listening to all of the reasons, I consider them excuses, for not enacting a face mask requirement I have found no reason that is justifiable for not making this important healthcare decision. I have been told that it is not enforceable. That is just nonsense. We have many laws and we know that they are not all easily enforceable however we place a penalty on them to encourage people to obey them. If people knew that they would face a potential $500 fine, they would wear the masks when they went into stores. I have been told that this is the merchant responsibility. That is also nonsense. Our merchants are struggling to survive. They should not be required to enforce laws and have to chase people out of their stores. We do not allow merchants to make up their own laws and regulations when it comes to health and safety, that is always been the function of government. That is not their job. I have been told that it should be up to the individual. Also nonsense. It is obvious that if we leave this up to the individuals they will not comply and they will continue to spread the COVID-19 virus. That is exactly why we are facing the massive increases that we are now seeing. I will continue to fight for this.
Regards
Mayor Ron Feinsod

Dear Mayor Feinsod,

Please advocate for the mandatory use of facial masks in public places. This is a high impact, low cost response to the spread of Coronavirus. It will not negatively impact our economy, and is very likely to save lives.
I urge you to lead on this issue!
Sincerely,
