‘It’s a Trojan horse for CRT’: Now furious parents push back against Social Emotional Learning (SEL) being taught in schools, claiming its promotion of ‘diversity’ is more evidence of government indoctrination

  • Social Emotional Learning (SEL) first emerged into the mainstream with the publication of a 1995 book emphasizing skills beyond academia
  • In recent years SEL has consisted of programs helping children talk about their feelings, and allowing older students to discuss sexuality and mental health
  • Parents have this year began pushing back against the schemes, arguing that they as parents should be the ones to assist their children
  • Some have accused SEL programs of promoting gender fluidity and even suicidal thoughts
  • Supporters of SEL argue that it is an essential tool for the wellbeing of young people 

 

A new front in the educational culture wars has broken out, as parents hit out at schools teaching Social Emotional Learning (SEL) which they fear is becoming a Trojan horse for CRT.

 

Supporters of SEL say that it is an essential tool for the development of young people – National University describes it as ‘a methodology that helps students of all ages to better comprehend their emotions, to feel those emotions fully, and demonstrate empathy for others.’

 

SEL classes are designed to help the youngest children give voice to their feelings and emotions; older children will discuss mental health, sexuality and race.
